Frequently Asked Questions
How do I install GmailKrypt?
Visit the Chrome Web Store, search for "GmailKrypt", and click "Add to Chrome". The extension will appear in your toolbar immediately.
Is GmailKrypt free?
Yes! The free plan includes 5 encryptions per day, 1 key pair, and digital signatures. Upgrade to Pro ($4.99/mo) for unlimited access.
Can Google read my encrypted emails?
No. GmailKrypt uses PGP end-to-end encryption. Your messages are encrypted on your device before they reach Gmail’s servers. Only the recipient with the correct private key can decrypt them.
What happens if I lose my private key?
Without your private key, previously encrypted messages cannot be decrypted. We recommend backing up your keys from the extension popup. Since we use zero-knowledge architecture, we cannot recover your keys.
Can I use GmailKrypt with multiple email accounts?
Yes. You can generate or import separate key pairs for each email address. The Pro plan supports unlimited key pairs.
Does the recipient need GmailKrypt too?
The recipient needs a PGP-compatible tool to decrypt messages. GmailKrypt uses the open PGP standard, so it works with any PGP client. You can attach your public key to emails so recipients can easily set up.
How do I share my public key?
When composing an email, click the "Attach Key" button in the GmailKrypt toolbar. Your public key is appended to the message so the recipient can import it.
What data does GmailKrypt collect?
Your email address is only sent to our server when activating a Pro subscription. Email content is never transmitted to our servers. All encryption and decryption happens locally on your device.
